Transporation Manager – Bellville

Job description

You will be responsible for our transport operations and for planning and scheduling loads. This includes planning and scheduling, load planning, route consolidation, delivery scheduling and capacity management across both own fleet and outsourced transport. The transport operation includes a mixed fleet of heavy commercial, medium commercial and light commercial vehicles, supplemented by third-party vehicles as required.

Your mission is to guarantee that the right load arrives safely at the right destination exactly at the right time, while minimising costs. The goal is to deliver an excellent service to the customer at the lowest possible cost to Agrico.

What You Will Manage

Physical systems

  • Assets – where they are, what they do, how many we need, maintenance, licences.
  • Schedules -when we are loading and offloading, what we are loading, where it is going.
  • Labour – requirements, wages, shifts. This is your team.

Information systems

  • Invoices – should accompany every delivery.
  • Proof of delivery – should accompany every delivery.
  • Purchase orders – should accompany every purchase.
  • Warehouse stock – every warehouse in your command should reflect the truth at all times.

Job requirements

  • 3 to 5 years experience in transport, fleet or logistics operations, with demonstrated leadership responsibility.
  • Systematically orientated.
  • Goal-oriented (The task is completed when the problem is solved and not when the first action is performed / PDCA).
  • Good understanding of supply chain and logistics.
  • Comfortable with data, you should be able to interrogate a number and make decisions based on evidence.

The Following Will Count In Your Favour

  • A degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related qualification.
  • Good understanding of Lean Processes and Toyota Production System.
  • Experience with fleet management systems (e.g. Cartrack or similar).
  • Proficient in both Afrikaans and English (written and oral).
  • Experience in agricultural distribution or FMCG logistics.
  • Eager to learn and driven.

In Conclusion

This role is not a classic 8-to-5. Our trucks run nearly around the clock, and while after-hours calls are occasional rather than constant, you will need to build a structure that ensures continued operation 24/7.

In return, you will have the autonomy to build systems that work, a team you can develop, and the satisfaction of knowing that hundreds of people across the country can do their jobs better because of yours. We recognise excellence, and we compensate accordingly.
