Web Control Support Service Technician – Bellville

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Support Service Technician to join our Web Control team in Bellville. You will provide remote and telephonic support to our branches, field technicians and farmer end-users – diagnosing issues on centre pivots, pumps, control panels and the Web Control platform itself, and guiding people through resolution on the phone or via the online portal.

Given that most of our customers are Afrikaans speaking, the ability to communicate clearly and confidently in Afrikaans – both spoken and written – is critical to being effective in this role.

About Web Control

Web Control is Agrico’s remote monitoring and control service that enables farmers to manage their centre pivots and irrigation pumps from anywhere. This role is the first point of contact for farmers, on-site technicians and branch staff who rely on Web Control to keep water moving and crops healthy – so it is as much about understanding irrigation and farming operations as it is about technology.

The successful candidate will provide telephonic and web-based support to Agrico branches, field technicians and farmers regarding our Web Control platform, centre pivots, pumps and related control equipment. Because the overwhelming majority of our customers are Afrikaans speaking, fluency in Afrikaans is essential – this is not a typical corporate IT helpdesk role, but a hands-on technical support position rooted in agriculture and irrigation.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide telephonic and web-based Web Control support to Agrico branches, field technicians
    and customers
  • Remotely monitor customer centre pivots and pumps online, identifying issues for both reactive
    and proactive maintenance
  • Coordinate with branch technicians on outages, field callouts and on-site repairs of irrigation
    equipment
  • Configure and commission customer devices (pivots, pumps, controllers) on the Web Control
    platform
  • Assist with invoicing and billing of Web Control customer accounts
  • Travel occasionally to farms and branches to support installations, commissioning or training
  • Train colleagues and branch staff on Web Control and related irrigation technology, reducing
    downtime for our farmers

Job requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12 (required)
  • Fluent spoken and written Afrikaans (required) – the primary language of our customers
  • Fluent spoken and written English (required)
  • Strong communication skills – experience providing telephonic and web-based (email / support tickets) technical support in both Afrikaans and English
  • Experience with remote troubleshooting of electrical / electronic equipment in the fiel
  • Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams and panel wiring
  • Comfortable working with Excel or Google Sheets for data, device lists and reporting
  • Strong integrity and reliability – farmers trust us with mission-critical irrigation
  • Willingness to work overtime and participate in rotational standby (after-hours and weekends during irrigation season)
  • Experience with support software such as Zendesk (advantageous)
  • Technical qualification in electronics or electrical engineering (advantageous)
  • Exposure to centre pivots, pumps, motor control centres or VSDs (advantageous)
