Absa and Agrico join forces to make pivot finance more accessible

Agrico and Absa AgriBusiness have joined forces to make it easier for qualifying farmers to invest in centre pivot irrigation, with finance available at preferential interest rates of as low as prime less 2%.

The agreement allows qualifying clients to finance a complete Agrico pivot irrigation system, including pipelines, pump system, sprinklers, automation and other components needed to get the system up and running.

For Agrico, this was an important part of developing the partnership. A centre pivot is much more than the machine that can be seen moving across a field. The full investment includes everything needed to deliver water efficiently to the crop.

“Agrico has spent more than 120 years serving the agricultural sector and supporting farmers with technical solutions designed for local conditions. Our goal is to help farmers make optimal use of available water and energy resources, improve crop yields and enhance the long-term sustainability of their operations,” says Walter Andrag, Managing Director of Agrico.

“Through this partnership, we are making it easier for producers to invest in infrastructure that supports their farming operations over the long term.”

The repayment structure can also be aligned with the farmer’s cashflow cycle, with flexible monthly or annual payments and VAT payable after three to four months. For growers, this means the repayment of the irrigation investment can be structured with the timing of their farming income in mind.

The partnership brings together two areas of expertise: Absa’s agricultural finance experience and Agrico’s more than 120 years of experience in irrigation.

“Agriculture remains one of the most important sectors of the economy and investment in irrigation capacity is critical to supporting long-term food security and farming resilience,” says Loffie Brandt, Sector Executive for Agriculture at Absa AgriBusiness.

“Through this exclusive partnership, we are bringing together specialised agricultural finance and irrigation expertise to help farmers access the infrastructure they need to grow and strengthen their operations.”

Ultimately, the partnership is about making investment in efficient irrigation a little more achievable for farmers. Agrico currently has 42 branches across Southern Africa, providing access to irrigation components, technical support and after-sales service.
