Agrico golfday: Komatipoort swings into action for amputees

The annual Agrico Komatipoort Golf Day, held at the Kambaku Golf Club on 16 May, once again proved that giving back can be both meaningful and fun. This year’s event brought together 60 players, numerous suppliers, and more than 200 attendees, all in support of Jumping Kids, a nonprofit organisation that empowers children with prosthetic needs through sport.

At one of the greens, manned by the Jumping Kids team, participants were asked to tee off with either one arm or one leg – a reminder of the challenges faced by amputees. They also had the opportunity to donate or take a humorous “penalty shot.” Donations were also welcomed in cash, with all proceeds directed to Jumping Kids.

This year’s fundraising drive was particularly personal. Minette’s daughter is currently volunteering with Jumping Kids, coaching sport for children who are amputees. Inspired by her passion, the team took on an ambitious goal: raise funds to resurface the basketball court at Muriel Brand School, a facility for children with special needs. Agrico Komatipoort’s commitment to giving back runs deep.

“I firmly believe that you should help where you can, and that all of us – no matter how small the effort – should be part of it. It fosters pride and responsibility among staff. Even something as simple as helping someone open a door makes a difference. Pay it forward,” says Minette Du Plessis, branch manager of Agrico Komatipoort.

The day didn’t end on the course. Players could invite their spouses and children to join in the festivities for the evening. A highlight of the effort was Agrico’s first-ever auction, offering a three-day fishing trip to Mozambique — accommodation and charter included. Meanwhile, with a jumping castle and popcorn machine on hand, even the youngest guests were entertained.
